What is this Indicator?
This indicator shows the percentage of workers aged 16 years and over who get to work by walking. |
| Why this is important: Walking to work is a great way to incorporate exercise into a daily routine. In addition to the health benefits, walking helps people get in touch with their communities, reduces commute costs and helps protect the environment by reducing air pollution from car trips. Furthermore, studies have shown that walking to work improves employees overall attitude and morale and reduces stress in the workplace. The Healthy People 2020 national health target is to increase the proportion of workers who walk to work to 3.1% |
